How to secure unlimited supply of bone broth and why you should drink it daily
Becca Crawford
What’s so good about bone broth and why is it flying off our Broth Bar & Larder shelves with unprecedented demand since the Corona virus pandemic? For so many reasons but one very important one is that broth is immune-building and fortifying.
Modern science shows that our immune system underpins all other systems of our body. Bone broth is a must for anyone who is immune-compromised or for anyone who aspires to have a bullet-proof immune system. Yes please! In the Jewish culture chicken broth is revered as “Jewish penicillin” and the Chinese administered it to the sick and dying because a good chicken broth was said to “bring back the dead”. There is science that backs up this wisdom. Chicken soup has been shown, in an in vitro study, to inhibit the neutrophil migration that triggers the onset of common cold symptoms.
People who regularly consume broth report feeling stronger with more energy, vitality and less inflammation. This is one of the many ways of how bone broth changed my life 13 years ago when I started making it from my home and selling the surplus to my friends (some of you are still my customers!). In addition to its immune building properties, other reasons why bone broth is a daily staple for me:
It is high in collagen- which is essential for building, repairing and maintaining our osteo skeletal system and for healthy hair, skin and nails.
It is high in gelatin – which is gut healing and sealing, and promotes regular bowl movements
It is high in glycine – this amino acid balances out our muscle meat intake (hence why we should ideally consume bone broth whenever we consume muscle meat), helps the liver to detoxify the body, and promotes emotional stability and sound sleep.
But like everything, not all bone broth is created equal!! Our broth is long slow simmered and made from certified organic 100% pastured chicken or beef bones, reverse osmosis filtered water and certified organic herbs.
We are selling our bone broth at Broth Bar in pre-packaged containers as well as hot broth in disposable (biodegradable) takeaway cups.
While we are working tirelessly to expand production offsite in a commercial kitchen, quantities are limited with the unprecedented demand so if you are frustrated with not being able to purchase as much as you’d like or if you are home isolating, I highly recommend that you learn to make your own broth via my ONLINE BONE BROTH WORKSHOP. Learning how to make your own bone broth is one of the most powerful things you can ever do for your and your family’s health.
How to consume bone broth:
Drink straight up in a cup as part of a meal or as a nourishing snack. Boost flavour and nutrients with what we call a “flavour or broth bomb” such as fresh lemon juice, minced garlic, grated ginger, Red Boat fish sauce, tamari, chilli flakes, fresh herbs, or a drop of Young Living essential oils of lemongrass, ginger, oregano, rosemary or basil.
Use as a base to a soup
Use as a base to a casserole
Use to cook rice (e.g. fried rice or risottos)
Use at the bottom of a saucepan when reheating food to prevent food sticking to saucepan
Freeze beef broth cubes in silicon ice cube trays and add to smoothies (I’ve been doing this for 13 years – hence how our broth cubes, and beef & spinach cubes were born)
Use the tallow that rises on the top of beef broth to cook meat with (hence the genesis of our Tallow Cubes)
