Our 2017 Easter Specials - ON SALE NOW!

Becca Crawford

Our nutrient-dense no-crap Easter chocolates are once again available for purchase at Broth Bar & Larder

This is artisan chocolate made with the highest quality ingredients. We have tweaked our original recipe to make it more kid-friendly for younger palates.

As usual, we have two fabulous offerings this Easter!

1. ORGANIC YUMMY BUNNY

These little fellows are made of solid raw dark chocolate and retail for $22.50 (cheaper than the Lindt ones I saw in Woollies!). Perfect for all the yummy mummies, delicious daddies and little bunnies out there….these will get your bunny tails shaking!

2. MINI SOKOLATA DELIGHTS

These delightful little half eggs are the perfect mouth-sized treat. Each egg is decorated with either a goji berry, an activated almond or activated cinnamon buckwheat. You can pop them into some hard plastic egg-shaped containers from $2 shops for those treasured Easter egg hunts (pictured below).

They are retailing for $15/100g bag and each bag has a mixture of the 3 flavours.

THE INGREDIENTS THAT GO INTO OUR ARTISAN CHOCOLATE...

Our artisan Easter chocolate is made with the following 3 pure ingredients

  • Raw cacao powder
  • Raw cacao butter
  • Mineral rich Canadian maple syrup

In keeping with last year's tradition we have reformulated our signature raw dark chocolate recipe by reducing the amount of raw cacao powder to make it less bitter for younger palates. Because it is less bitter, we reduced the amount of maple syrup as less sweetener is needed when there is less raw cacao powder. Commercial manufactures increase the amount of sweetener for kids’ chocolates but we did the opposite as we know how unnecessary and damaging an excess of sweeteners are, especially for young growing bodies. The result is a silky smooth melt-in-your-mouth buttery sensation with a hint of raw dark chocolate. We trialed these on the harshest of critics (kids!) and got the big thumbs up!

To read about the nutritional benefits of raw cacao powder and what’s in commercially-produced chocolate that you might want to steer clear of (such as soy lecithins, refined sweetens, agave syrup, preservatives, milk powders), read one of my earlier newsletters here.

If these Easter chocolates don’t take your fancy, there’s always our sokolata (raw dark chocolate slabs…choose from 4 different flavours retailing from $12.50/100g) or our raw cacao coconut balls (sweetened with whole medjool dates retailing at $17.50/bag of 6).

AVAILABLE NOW UNTIL STOCKS LAST AT BROTH BAR & LARDER IN BRONTE

To avoid disappointment, you can pre-order your chocolates by emailing us at orders@staraniseorganic.com and we will put packets aside for you. We can also courier the Yummy Bunnies to Sydney Metro Areas for an additional courier fee.

We are closed over the Easter 4 day long weekend 14 - 17 April.

WISHING YOU ALL A HAPPY CHOCOLATE-FILLED EASTER!!

School + Work Lunches Workshop 2017

Becca Crawford

With Term 1 about to start and the daily grind of school lunches soon to become a ground hog day reality, I have been asked by numerous mothers to run a round of my school and work lunches workshops. As parents, we all want to raise happy, healthy, vibrant kids and the best place to start is with nutritious and delicious home-made meals made simple and easy.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:

In this jammed-pack 3 hour intensive workshop I will be covering:

1. Why childhood chronic illnesses and degenerative diseases are becoming an epidemic.

2. Why such illnesses didn't exist in traditional (pre-industrialised) societies.

3. What are some nutrient-dense wholefoods that will give our children the building blocks and energy they need to play, learn, concentrate, grow and function properly, and perform their very best.

4. Why the source and processing of our food is paramount and what you should be asking when purchasing ingredients.

5. Why nutrient-density and removal of toxins are key and how they shape the physiology of our children.

6. Myth busting around saturated fats.

7. What's wrong with what children (and adults) are typically eating for lunch and snacks: the dangers of sugar, gluten and industrial seed oils.

8. A 3 step action plan!

9. My secret tips and tricks, and school lunch and morning tea “formulas” for success.

10. Equipment to have on hand.

11. How to deal with uneaten food, fussy eaters and food intolerances.

12. A 3 step process for transitioning from processed foods to nutrient-dense whole foods.

THE COST OF THE 3 HR WORKSHOP IS $140 + INCLUDES:

+ Detailed theory discussion on the above.
+ Extensive detailed handout (almost 60 pages!) including theory, lunch box suggestions and recipes.
+ Practical demonstrations.
+ Hands-on experience.
+ Food tasting.
+ Opportunity to ask questions.

THIS WORKSHOP IS IDEAL FOR:

1. Time-poor parents who need inspiration with super simple, quick and easy school lunches that are free of processed foods and made with nutrient-dense ingredients that are bursting with flavor.

2. Parents who are confused about what to pack for their children for lunch or morning tea, or want further ideas or inspiration.

3. Parents who have transitioned their children off, or wish to transition their children off, processed foods (e.g. gluten, refined grains, added sugars, industrial seed oils and packaged foods and drinks) but are not 100% clear on how to create a balanced lunch with nutrient-dense whole food ingredients.

4. Parents whose children are constantly hungry throughout the day despite their lunch.

5. Parents who want to replace or reduce the amount of canteen lunches in favour of home-made nutritious lunches.

6. Parents whose children frequently succumb to colds and infections.

7. High school or uni students and adults who similarly want to know how to deal with any of the above issues for their own lunches.

My favourite BACK TO SCHOOL fridge, freezer and pantry BASICS!

Becca Crawford

I’m not ready for it. My kids aren’t ready for it. We don’t want the summer holidays to end. I can’t guarantee that the emotional transition back to school next week will be an easy one for you either, but I can assure you that with some basic fridge, freezer and pantry staples, you'll be well prepared to tackle the early morning rush hour with less haste and more ease and grace and ensure that your little chimps will be well fed with nutrient-dense foods that give them the energy and building blocks to learn, play and concentrate all day without energy dips.

Here is what I make sure I have on hand at a minimum:

1. Rectangular and square leak-proof stainless steel lunch boxes with removable dividers
2. Nesting trio of 3 round leak-proof stainless steel lunch box containers
3. Insulated food jars to keep food cold (e.g. yogurt) or hot (soups, broth, stews)
4. If permitted, activated nuts (especially our 30g nut packs which are the perfect snack size)
5. Refined sugar free treats such as our medjool date sweetened white chocolate bliss balls or our 2 ingredient carob bears (totally sweetener free!!)
6. Gruyere raw milk cheese (perfect to team with fruit for morning tea or can be the protein part of lunch)
7. Preservative-free cured meats from Bundarra Berkshires eg Capocollo and Little French Ham
8. Wild smoked salmon (delicious with lemon juice and capers folded through salad)
9. Kooee beef jerkey made from 100% grass fed meat

These are all available from Broth Bar & Larder in Bronte. We are open 7 days a week 8am-6pm. We can also ship these out to you if you email orders@staraniseorganic.com (cold items only for Sydney and Wollongong residents).

To become a lunchbox pro, book into one of my school and work lunches WORKSHOPS that I am running in early Feb where I will share with you my secret tips and tricks, school lunch and morning tea “formulas” for success, discuss over 1 hour of nutritional theory and 2 hours of prac, and showcase how to prepare a nutrient-dense grain-free, processed food free lunch in 5 mins flat -I kid you not!

And don't forget to check out my social media posts to see what my monkeys are taking with them to school each day.
