'Good For You' Chocolate Workshop 2019

I am excited to be running a round of Chocolate workshops limited to 10 people each. 

Everyone loves to indulge in something sweet and chocolately every now and again – and why not? We eat for pleasure just as much as for nourishment and sustenance. But the key to sweet treat consumption is maximising quality and limiting quantity! What I have observed and personally experienced over the past 20 years is that if we dial up quality to the max, the quantity consumed naturally decreases. A little goes a long way when you eat the real deal as your body gets its fix and fill super fast.  

Finding high quality treats without any artificial ingredients and empty fillers can be tricky business which is why I started my own range for my children over 10 years ago.  It’s comforting to be able to offer my loved ones the occasional treat that’s naturally sweetened and made with only nutrient-dense ingredients without feeling overridden with guilt that I’m messing up their health. I want this for every household! Which is why I want to share some of my favourite chocolate recipes and culinary tips with you in this intensive workshop, so that you too can make chocolate treats and desserts for yourself, your family and friends that not only taste delicious, are quick and super simple to make, but are also good for you!


IN THIS WORKSHOP I WILL BE SHOWCASING:

  1. Mexican chilli hot chocolate 

  2. “sokolata” chocolate block/slab of various flavours including carob

  3. chocolate hazelnut spread (the real “nutella”)

  4. chocolate ice-cream

  5. hot chocolate pudding

  6. chocolate hazelnut slice

  7. chocolate mousse


We will be using unprocessed fermented raw cacao powder.

We will not be using any refined sweeteners – only natural unprocessed sweeteners or whole fruit.

All recipes are grain-free, but 3 contain dairy.

As you will be making your own sokolata to take home please bring a small rectangular glass container lined with baking paper (15cm x 10cm or thereabouts). As we will be flavouring our sokolata and other chocolate treats and drinks with Young Living essential oils I encourage you to take the opportunity to set up a Young Living account in my team prior to the workshops so we can provide you with all of the support you need on the oils. Food as Medicine tour coming to country NSW!!!

Spending the past 2 weeks with my mama who is quickly slipping away with dementia and witnessing the devastating effect that this has had on not only her life but the lives of those around her, has made me more determined than ever in my mission to empower people with the education, tools and resources they need to reclaim their health and to live less toxic, more nourishing lives before it is too little too late. By turning ignorance into education, we can raise conscious awareness about the effect of what we put in and on our body.

From what we eat and drink, the personal care products we put on our skin, the household cleaning products we unwittingly inhale, how we move, sleep, breathe, and play, how much time we spend in nature, whether we have a strong reason for living, our inner dialogue and our ability to manage our stress… all these pillars or lifestyle choices profoundly influence our health, and switch our genes on and off for better or for worse. Modern science tells us that chronic illness is not, as we previously thought, primarily driven by our hard coded genes but by the expression of our genes which in turn is driven by OUR lifestyle choices. This is a message of hope as we are in the driver’s seat! But as a society and individually we need to urgently shift gears and change lanes in order to change the trajectory of our health and arrest the epidemic of chronic illness and degenerative disease.

In our lap lies an awesome and empowering responsibility as we control to a very large degree these lifestyle choices! Join me in stepping up to that responsibility for the sake of our health, our children’s health and the planet’s health. For what we put on our skin and breathe into our lungs is just as, if not more, important than the food we eat as our skin and lungs have no digestive filters!

I will be co-presenting with Marieke Rodenstein, Australia’s pre-eminent holistic dietician, whom I have had the privilege of working closely with over the past 8 years.

Our collective forte is to combine the wisdom of ancestral diets with the latest developments in nutritional medicine and robust science, to provide you with all the tools and resources you need on how to nourish your body and optimise your health.

Holistic dietitian, Marieke Rodenstein, will discuss the fundamental principles of robust nutrition for optimum gut health. 

The mention of the word bacteria typically conjures up fears of disease and has us running for our hand sanitizer. Most people think of bacteria as dangerous and dirty, more foe than friend. Subsequently, our focus has been on the microbes that harm us, and how we can eradicate them. Whilst there are many bad bugs that can have serious consequences on our health, what often goes unnoticed is the critical role that bacteria play in keeping us healthy.

We humans harbor over 100 trillion bacteria in and on our body and the majority of these microbes live in our gut. In fact the gut is one of the most complex ecosystems on the planet. Look after it and you are guaranteed better health. Harm it or neglect it and you risk harming the health of your entire body. 

Disturbances in our gut flora are being linked to an ever increasing number of diseases from gastrointestinal issues such as IBS and acid reflux to eczema, allergies, autoimmune issues, diabetes, depression, obesity and autism.
